Connecticut Cancellation of Registration Foreign Statutory Trust is a trust created under the laws of a foreign jurisdiction and registered with the Connecticut Secretary of State to conduct business in the state. It is used by companies seeking to avoid double taxation of income in multiple jurisdictions. There are two types of Connecticut Cancellation of Registration Foreign Statutory Trust: Qualified Foreign Statutory Trust (LFST) and Unqualified Foreign Statutory Trust (LFST). An LFST is subject to the Connecticut income tax and must file an annual Connecticut tax return. An LFST is exempt from Connecticut income tax, but must file an annual information return. Both types of trusts must also file an annual Connecticut Cancellation of Registration form.
