The California Assessment Appeal Application is a legal document that can be used to dispute property tax assessments made by county assessors. This document is available to both residential and commercial property owners in California. There are three types of California Assessment Appeal Applications: Informal Review, Assessment Appeals Board (AAB) Review, and Small Claims Assessment Review (SCAR). The Informal Review allows property owners to make a written request to the county assessor to adjust their assessment. The AAB Review is an administrative hearing where the property owner can present their case and the county assessor can defend their assessment. The SCAR is a less formal review process wherein a property owner can present their case to an administrative law judge.
