Alaska Rescission Notice is a document issued by the U.S. Department of the Interior that withdraws lands from the public domain for various reasons. It is used to protect the environment, or to preserve the land for cultural or historical reasons. The two main types of Alaska Rescission Notice are rescission of lands for conservation and rescission of lands for Native allotment. Under a conservation rescission, the land is withdrawn from the public domain and placed under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service or the U.S. Forest Service for the purpose of preservation, protection, and management. Under a Native allotment rescission, the land is withdrawn from the public domain and placed under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Indian Affairs for the purpose of providing land to Native Alaskan communities.
