A Montana Effective Financing Statement (MFS) is a legal document that is used to perfect a security interest in certain kinds of personal property located in the state of Montana. The MFS must be filed with the Montana Secretary of State in order to provide notice to potential creditors of the secured party’s interest in the property. There are two types of Montana Effective Financing Statements: UCC-1 and UCC-3. A UCC-1 is used to create a security interest in personal property, and a UCC-3 is used to amend, assign, or terminate a UCC-1 financing statement. Both forms must include details such as the secured party’s name, the name of the debtor, the collateral description, and a filing fee.
