Who Participates in the Evaluation Meeting? Section 504 requires a person knowledgeable about the student, a person knowledgeable about the meaning of the evaluations, and someone knowledgeable about placement options.
You can also ask for a Section 504 evaluation for your child. To get one, write to your school district's 504 contact person. You can call your child's school to find out who this person is. In some school districts, you can also ask the school counselor for this evaluation.
The law requires that we meet with each student at least every 3 years to reevaluate the student's 504 qualification and plan.
Specifically, Rule 504, ing to the Texas Judicial Branch, may offer your spouse the right to not testify against you. Many people mistakenly think that Rule 504 gives complete immunity from testifying against a spouse, but that is not true.
To be protected under Section 504, a student must be determined to: (1) have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities; or (2) have a record of such an impairment; or (3) be regarded as having such an impairment.
A 504 Plan is developed for students who have a disability, that do not require special education services. An IEP provides a program specialized instruction and supports to access and progress in the curriculum.
Sample Accommodations for Anxiety or OCD Separate set of books for home. Has own set of supplies (crayons, scissors, tape) vs. using community supplies. May take hand-outs first before others have touched them. Scheduled bathroom breaks/use of low-traffic bathroom. May leave class a minute early to avoid hallway congestion.
A few examples of 504 accommodations include: getting extra time on a test; sitting at the front of the class to reduce distractions; having a handrail or ramp installed in the school; having a test read to them; and classroom changes to manage food allergies.
If a student qualifies for a 504 plan for anxiety, the school then puts in place supports and accommodations to help. This might mean frequent breaks, a quiet test room, or something else — whatever helps the student fully participate at school.
