You will only be able to request to live with someone who is participating in the same program as you. How to form a roommate pair? Step 1: Make sure both students have completed their housing contracts including their Space Reservation and Filing Fees AND have received a contract received email from housing@osu.
Students submitting a housing contract after May 1 can email housing@ohio with any room type or roommate preferences. Our office will make every effort to honor requests.
All students will have a roommate during their first year at MSU. During the housing preference process, students will have the option to indicate a preferred roommate. We will do our best to fulfill your roommate preference.
Many colleges have a matching system to pair you with your future roommate. If they do not, they might do it manually within their housing department. If you are going to an in-state college or going to a college with someone you know, you have the opportunity to choose your future roommate if you so wish.
Room selection is being offered on a first-come, first-served basis, based on the student's assigned lottery timeslot. All students have equal access to any type of room on campus (single rooms, if applicable, have been centrally assigned).
A Roommate Agreement is a written contract between roommates that outlines their rights and obligations while living together. This agreement includes house rules, maintenance duties, restricted behaviors, and more. For a Roommate Agreement to be useful, everyone sharing the household must agree to it.
About our Gender-Inclusive Living Community Students who select this option will be able to search for roommates, or be paired with roommates, regardless of gender identity. Students who select this option will only be matched with other students who also make this selection.
As long as the roommate request is mutual, when you select a room, you will pull the new student into the space with you. There is limited availability in mixed student halls where first- and second-year students may reside together.
The Housing Deposit is $200 payable as follows: (1) online with a credit card or an eCheck by going to .ohio/myhousing (opens in a new window) and clicking on the “Applications” tab; or (2) a personal check mailed to: Office of the Bursar, P.O. Box 960, Chubb Hall 010, Athens, OH 45701-0960.
