Please find enclosed the necessary information and application for the ALLEGHENY COUNTY SENIOR CITIZEN TAX RELIEF PROGRAM. This program provides qualified applicants a 30% TAX DISCOUNT on the gross amount of your county taxes. The maximum discount you can receive is $650 for one year.

Must be age 60 or older, or, if married, either spouse must be age 60; or be a widow or widower age 50 to 60 years; or permanently disabled and age 18 to 60 years. The applicant must meet the required age by end of the year of application.

How the Homestead/Farmstead Exclusion (Act 50) Works. The exclusion provides a $18,000 reduction in assessed value for Allegheny County real property taxation and results in $115.74 in annual savings of county taxes for most constituents.

If you own your primary residence, you are eligible for the Homestead Exemption on your Real Estate Tax. The Homestead Exemption reduces the taxable portion of your property's assessed value. With this exemption, the property's assessed value is reduced by $100,000.

The Property Tax/Rent Rebate program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older. The income limit is $45,000 per year for homeowners and renters (exclude one-half of Social Security income).

If you believe you are eligible for the Pennsylvania Property Tax Rebate, use booklet PA-1000 to apply for the rebate. The deadline to apply for the 2024 tax year state program is June 30, 2026. Rebate checks are mailed starting July 1 of each year.
