FAQ

Basic singles rules: The side lines in singles is out at all times; even during service. The back box is considered in during service, i.e in-between the two base lines. Besides the above service rules and area of play rules, all rules listed above apply.

For singles the entire baseline are in but however for the sides it is only up till the single sidelines. The tricky part here is the box at the back of the court where the baseline and the sidelines overlap, in singles that corner baseline box is considered as out.

During service in doubles, the court is short, with the rear 'tramlines'at the back of the court, being out of bounds until the serve is returned. Once the service is returned the whole of the court becomes in. If the shuttle lands on the line then it is in.

Badminton: Badminton is always considered as an indoor game only. Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. The most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side).

The inner sidelines are 0.46m (1.50ft) inside the outer sidelines and run parallel to the doubles sidelines. Any shot that lands outside this sideline is considered “out of play” during a singles match.

The lines surrounding the court is called the BOUNDARY LINE. When the shuttlecock hits out of the line, the point is given to the receiver. There are 2 types of boundary line; the serving line, and the boundary line. The point is given to the hitter if the shuttlecock lands right at the line.

The badminton court is 13.4m long and 6.1m wide. For singles the court is marked 5.18m wide. The lines marking out the court are easily distinguishable and coloured white or yellow. The lines are 40mm wide.

Measured out in metres, a singles badminton court is 13.41m long and 5.18m wide. The total length diagonally from corner to corner is 14.37m and the court has a total surface area of 69.46m². In feet, the singles badminton court is 44.00ft long and 17.00ft wide.
