The processing times for PRTDs vary depending on the country. In general, it can take anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks. However, in some cases, the processing time may exceed eight weeks.
Can I travel outside the U.S. with a green card? Yes, you can travel abroad as a green card holder — that's one of the many benefits of being a permanent resident. However, your trip must be temporary and you cannot remain outside the United States for more than 1 year.
If you're outside Canada without a valid PR card, you need to apply for a permanent resident travel document (PRTD). For example, if your PR card expires or is lost, stolen or damaged while you're outside Canada, you need a PRTD to enter Canada by commercial vehicle (airplane, bus, boat or train).
Permanent residents (PR) of Canada must carry and show their valid permanent resident card (PR card) or permanent resident travel document (PRTD) when boarding a flight to Canada, or travelling to Canada on any other commercial carrier.
Projected wait times are approximately 24 months for refugee claims and 12 months for refugee appeals.
