Please Note: We are currently accepting E-file applications for the tax year 2025 only. To be eligible for homestead exemption, you must be a permanent resident of Florida, who owns real property as of January 1 of the year in which you are applying.

Homestead Exemption: Every person who has legal or equitable title to real property in the State of Florida and who resides thereon and in good faith makes it his or her permanent home is eligible to receive a homestead exemption of up to $50,000. The first $25,000 applies to all property taxes.

In the State of Florida, if you own property and make the property your permanent residence as of January 1st of the tax year, you may qualify for homestead exemption and save hundreds of dollars (Florida Statute 196.031). Applications must be submitted to our office either by mail, in person, or online by March 1st.

The deadline to file for homestead exemption is March 1st of the current tax year. However, you may late file up to 25 days from that date the Notices of Proposed Property Taxes are mailed. For help, please contact our office at 772-288-5608.

Missing the March 1 filing deadline waives your right to the privilege of homestead exemption until the following year. However, if you missed the deadline due to “extenuating circumstances”, you should contact our office for further information.
