The subject line is entered either entirely in upper case or in boldface. It may begin flush with the left margin or be centred for emphasis. It is not used in personal correspondence, where the subject is usually referred to in the first paragraph.
Here are six steps to write a letter of instruction: Create a header. Before you write the content of the letter, create a header at the top left-hand corner of the document. Address the reader. Explain the project or task. List each step. Conclude your letter. Revise the document.
For example, a subject line might read "RE: Claim Number 129523 - Filing Documents and Policy Information." This allows the reader to find your claim and lets them know what to expect in the rest of the business letter.
The subject line is usually placed between the salutation and the body of the letter (with a blank line in between).
Subject. The subject should be short and direct, clearly representing to the recipient what your letter is about. If you have a reference number, such as a claim number, case number or reference number, you should include it on this line. The subject does not have to be written as a complete sentence.
The 'Subject' in a formal letter should contain the aim/ purpose of the letter.
