You must fill out an Answer, serve the plaintiff, and file your Answer form with the court. Generally, this is due within 30 days after you were served. If you don't, the plaintiff can ask for a default. If there's a default, the court won't let you file an Answer and can decide the case without you.
No later than 15 calendar days before the date set for the case management conference or review, each party must file a case management statement and serve it on all other parties in the case.
Complete the top section of the proof of service form as follows: First box, left side: In this box print the name, address, and telephone number of the person for whom you served the documents. Second box, left side: Print the name of the county in which the legal action is filed and the court's address in this box.
If you sue someone, you must serve them with a summons. This gives them notice of the lawsuit. “Service of process” is the formal name for giving a defendant a summons to come to court.

After the papers are served, a Proof of Service form must be filled out and signed by the person who served the papers. The Proof of Service form must be filed with the court.
One Proof of Service per Party: A separate proof of service must be filed for each party who is served with a summons.
583.210. (a) The summons and complaint shall be served upon a defendant within three years after the action is commenced against the defendant. For the purpose of this subdivision, an action is commenced at the time the complaint is filed.
How to serve by publication Contact the newspaper. Get in touch with the newspaper listed on your Order for Publication (form FL-982). Give the newspaper the copy of your court papers. Give the court papers to the newspaper. Check that the proof of publication is filed. Wait to see if other person responds.
If the newspaper was going to mail the proof of publication to you, file it with the court clerk before your court date. If the newspaper told you they would file the proof of publication, check with your court to make sure it was filed. You may be able to check on your court's website to see if it was filed.
