The motion record must be served and filed at least 3 days before the day set out in the notice for the hearing of the motion (for a motion with personal appearance at a general sitting).
This is called the affidavit of service. The person who served the documents has to complete Form 6B: Affidavit of Service and sign it in front of a commissioner. There are commissioners at the courthouse. Just ask the clerk at the family courthouse where you can find one.

Unless the documents require “special service,” you can serve by email, but there are special rules. You need the permission of the court or of the other party, and you will need to file the email along with your Form 6B: Affidavit of Service.
If the person to be served does not have an address for service you can deliver or post the documents in a sealed envelope to their last known address or place of business, or send the documents to their last known email address.
