As a general rule, the FLSA sets 14 years old as the minimum age for employment, and limits the number of hours worked by minors under the age of 16.

Is there a limit to how much I can work each day? Yes. You should get 11 hours consecutive rest each day. This means your working day should not be more than 13 hours long in each 24-hour period that you are working for your employer.

Working Hours Minors who are 14-15 years old are only permitted to work 40 hours per week between the hours of 7am-9pm, and minors aged 16-17 are permitted to work a maximum of 48 hours per week between 6am-Midnight. Employers must post work schedules for minor employees and adhere to the hour regulations.

Minors may not work more than 6 consecutive days in a week. Workers under 16 may not work more than 40 hours a week and 8 hours a day, with certain exceptions for agricultural work. During the school year, minors under 16 may only work outside of scheduled school hours.

New Jersey subminimum wage The New Jersey minimum wage is not applicable to minors under the age of 18, except for the following occupations and industries where the state minimum of $13.00 per hour applies: Mercantile occupations — Any worker selling any type of merchandise, wares, goods, or similar.
