Fairfax County requires peddlers and solicitors be licensed before they solicit door to door. They may solicit only between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., and may not solicit at a residence which posts a "No Peddlers or Solicitors" sign.

If a solicitor is found in violation of this code, their privileges will be revoked and they will not be authorized to solicit within Loudoun County for a period of one year. Solicitation hours in the county are Mon-Sat 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Soliciting is not permitted on Sunday's or state or national holidays.
California Civil Code section 1459 states that no person shall go upon the property of another and knock or ring the doorbell or attempt to gain the attention of the occupant for the purpose of soliciting. The law also requires solicitors to leave the premises immediately upon request of the occupant.
