Description

The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977 resulted from bribery of foreign government officials by Lockheed Aircraft Company. This Act is designed to prevent the bribing of foreign officials in order to obtain foreign government contracts. Payments to foreign officials for “facilitation,” often referred to as grease payments, are not prohibited under FCPA so long as these payments are made only to get officials to do their normal jobs that they might not do, or would do slowly, without some payment. These payments can be made only to secure a permit or license; obtain paper processing; secure police protection; provide phone, water, or power supply; or similar such actions.

Do you need a contractor license in Ohio? A general contractor license is not required in Ohio if you perform minor repair work or on home improvement projects under $1,000. However, you may need a license from the state if you plan to work on larger projects.

Others vary by county or city, like in California. Independent contractors don't need a license to operate in the state of California, but they may have other requirements based on where they build their business. Still others will vary based on the kind of work you do.

To convert a contractor to full-time, here are steps to take: Review the rules for employee classifications. Offer the role to the employee. Collect your employee's information. Convert their hourly wage to annual salary and add the employee to your payroll.

In Ohio, for a contract to be legally enforceable, certain elements—like a valid offer, acceptance, and a meeting of the minds—must be present within the document or verbal agreement. These elements help ensure the enforceability of the contract and confirm the agreement is valid and binding under the law.

That contract must include specific information about your rights and responsibilities. In addition, any changes made to that contract must be in writing, be legible, be easy to understand, and inform you of your rights to cancel or rescind the contract.

To apply for an Ohio contractor license at the state level, you must: Be 18 years or older. Be a U.S. citizen or legal alien. Have at least five years of experience in your trade, have three years of experience as a registered engineer in your trade, or have an equivalent experience that the OCILB finds acceptable.
