Safety Members are those employed in active law enforcement or active fire suppression. All other members are classified as General Members. WORKING IN RETIREMENT All SBCERA retirees returning to work in any capacity, including as an independent contractor or through a staffing agency, must be authorized to return by SBCERA. Work cannot exceed 960 hours in a fiscal year.
