Most senior homeowners are eligible for this exemption if they are 65 years of age or older (born in 1958 or prior) and own and occupy their property as their principal place of residence. Once this exemption is applied, the Assessor's Office automatically renews it for you each year.

Personal property renditions (aka, personal property returns) require you to take a detailed inventory of your assets — everything from laptops and lamps to heavy machinery — across every location. As a result, one location can easily have tens of thousands of assets.

Plats of survey are ordinarily provided to homeowners at the time of the sale of a property. The Assessor's Office does not have copies of plats for the over million residential homes in the county. Annual property tax bills are mailed every year in October to the owner of record as of January 1 of that year. If you do not receive the original bill by November 1, contact the County Tax Collector or Assessor for a duplicate bill.

Property tax bills are mailed twice a year by the Cook County Treasurer. Your first installment is due at the beginning of March. By law, the first installment property tax bill is exactly 55% percent of the previous year's total tax amount.

The current tax bill can be obtained from the Cook County Treasurer's Office. Tax bills for previous years are handled by the Cook County Clerk's Office.
