Does UC Take Letters of Recommendation? The UC system does not require letters of recommendation. In fact, if you submit them, they won't be read. You may be asked for them later as part of a supplemental review, but they will notify you directly about this via email.

The general UC website says 12/2. but then the UC Berkeley website says "Applications for admission are available beginning in October of the year prior to the year in which you would enter Berkeley. The application filing period is October 1 – December 2.

Letters of recommendation and interviews are not accepted at UCLA. However, students applying to the following professional schools at UCLA – Arts & Architecture; Music; Nursing; and Theater, Film and Television – may be required to submit either with the supplemental application.

UC does not require (nor read) letters of recommendation at the time of application. A campus may ask for them later as part of a supplemental review, so be sure to check your email.

Recommendations are submitted online by the recommenders themselves via Cal State Apply; they cannot be completed or submitted by the applicant or another party on behalf of the recommender.

Students will be invited by email to complete an online form and provide the contact information of the individuals who are writing the letters. Once the form is submitted, recommenders will receive an email with instructions on how to submit letters electronically to UC Berkeley.

Some UC campuses may state the decision within the email, while others will require you to log into the applicant portal to check the admission decision. All UCs will send admissions packets to admitted students; campuses will NOT mail letters to students who are NOT admitted.

It can take a few weeks to a few months to hear back for a college admissions decision, depending on the type of application you submitted. Early applicants — such as early decision or early action — will generally hear back in December while regular decision applicants will receive their admission decision in April.
