The Heading The heading contains the return address with the date on the last line.
In America, the date is formally written in month/day/year form. Thus, “January 1, 2011” is widely considered to be correct. In formal usage, it is not appropriate to omit the year, or to use a purely numerical form of the date.
The date is generally written in full in a business letter. The usual North American style places the month before the day, with a comma between the day and the year: April 4, 2016.
Write out the entire date in the format you choose. Write out the month in full, and avoid using abbreviations or numerical formats. For example, the date may look like "31 January 2019" or "January 31, 2019." Don't write January as “Jan” or “01.” If you'd like, you may opt to write the date as "2019 January 31."
The date will appear two lines below the return address. Make sure to write out the date; don't abbreviate. Next, include the company contact information (contact name and title, address, and phone number) two lines beneath the date. Always try to find out the name and proper title of the person receiving the letter.
Use the format “Date Month Year” (depending on what information you have) written out with no commas. If the day of the week is relevant, then put it before the date.
This format puts the year first, followed by the month and then the day, i.e. YYYY-MM-DD. For example: 2023-04-12 would be 12 April 2023. 2024-08-05 would be 05 August 2024.
