Parents who are interested in enrolling their child in a choice school should contact the superintendent of the receiving school district in the winter or spring of the prior school year. Parents will fill out an application before a lottery process selects the students who can participate in the program.
The following documents are necessary for registration: Proof of Residency. Deed or lease for the property where you are residing, along with a current utility bill. Original Certified Birth Certificate. Passport, if the child was not born in the United States. Immunization record / completed “MA School Health Record”
Does Brockton participate in school choice? Yes, Brockton participates in the school choice program, accepting outside students for grades 8-12. The Brockton School Committee votes annually on whether to participate in the program.
No school can reject an application except for lack of space in the requested grade level, desegregation plan requirements, or expulsion record. Provisions are made for transportation within the nonresident district and, under some circumstances, within the resident district.
The underlying purpose of the schoolwide approach is to enable schools with high numbers of at-risk children to integrate the services they provide to their children from Federal, State, and local resources.
