Throughout the years, cattle became an important industry and farmers experimented with, and grew, a variety of other crops including alfalfa, peas, melons, citrus, and pecans.
Founded in 1888, Buckeye was first settled as an agricultural town. The city's high water table and new 10-mile irrigation canal made it the perfect place to grow high-demand crops like alfalfa and cotton. As the crops grew and prospered, so did the town.
