Once an OPT request status changes to Pending, the student must write USCIS to withdraw the OPT application. The request must: Be sent to the USCIS Service Center processing the application. The address is on the USCIS-issued Receipt Notice sent to the student.

All OPT employment is required to be related to the student's degree program. If a student fails to report OPT employment information, the student could be considered in violation of F-1 immigration status by the Department of Homeland Security.

You are still considered to be in F-1 student status while on OPT and will continue to use your F-1 visa stamp for any travel during your OPT period. To maintain status on OPT, you must either work at job(s) directly related to your major/level of study or actively seek employment in your major/level of study.
