The General Assembly shall not submit proposed amendments to more than three articles of the constitution at any one election.Constitution of the State of Illinois. Illinois has had four state constitutions. The current state constitution has 14 articles. States offer multiple paths for amending their constitutions, which are much easier to change than the federal Constitution. The Supreme Court Commission on Access to Justice has approved the following forms. All Illinois Courts must accept these forms. The Illinois General Assembly has put six constitutional amendments on the ballot. The first ten amendments, known as the Bill of Rights, were passed in 1789.
