For several reasons, the California bar exam is often considered to be the hardest in the country. California's legal system is known for its complexity. The state has its own set of laws, regulations, and precedents that often differ significantly from federal laws and those of other states.
Like the UBE, the California bar is a two-day exam that is given two times a year. On the second day, California does administer the same multiple choice section that UBE states use (the MBE). However, on the first day, its essay section addresses California-specific law.
Prior to July 2017, the California Bar Exam was a three-day exam. The California Bar Exam is now a two-day exam, administered twice per year. The 3-day exam consisted of six one-hour essays, two three-hour performance tests, and 200 multiple-choice questions.
What is the bar exam format? For most jurisdictions, the bar exam is a 2-day exam that is held on the last Tuesday & Wednesday every February and July. There are still a few states that administer a 2 ½- or 3-day bar exam.
