To schedule your ceremony at City Hall you will need to call the Marriage License Department at (215) 686-2233 after you have obtained your marriage license (they won't disclose any scheduling details until you have this). When you call, you'll be asking when they are “opening the appointment book” for scheduling.
You will receive your license the day you apply for it, but there is a three-day waiting period before you can get married. The license is valid for 60 days from the date of issue and is only valid in the state of Pennsylvania.
An officiant is to write non-denominational on the marriage license until the marriage ceremony is performed per a particular religious rite. As a couple, it will be your duty to inform the officiant in advance if you are performing any traditions or rituals from your religion.
You need a marriage license before you can legally get married. Both applicants must appear in person at the Register of Wills and provide the required documents, including identification. You can use your marriage license in any county in Pennsylvania. You cannot use it in another state or country.
To get started, you'll need to email MLappt. @phila or call (215) 686-2233 to request an appointment with the Marriage License Bureau in City Hall. Keep in mind that you'll need to plan on getting married within 60 days of your appointment.
The license is issued after a mandatory 3 day waiting period. Note: An application for a marriage license is NOT a marriage license. A marriage license is valid for 60 days from the date it is issued. You should apply for a marriage license at least 2 to 3 weeks before the scheduled date of your marriage ceremony.
Once the application is processed, there is a mandatory three-day waiting period required by Pennsylvania law. After this period ends, the marriage license will be mailed to the address provided by the applicants. A completed marriage license can also be picked up in person at the Marriage License office.
You can do a self uniting marriage in PA, no officiant required at all. You just goto the county office and apply for a marriage certificate. Then you and your spouse sign it, and turn it in.
