Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to apply for a marriage license. Pennsylvania law no longer permits individuals under 18 years of age to apply for a marriage license. As of June 1997, Blood Tests are NO LONGER required to obtain a marriage license.

In 1937, five states passed premarital examination laws similar to that of Connecticut, with a further twelve states doing the same from 1938 to 1939. By 1954, all but eight states and the District of Columbia required premarital blood tests. The laws were very popular with the American public.

A marriage license is valid for 60 days from the date it is issued. You should apply for a marriage license at least 2 to 3 weeks before the scheduled date of your marriage ceremony.

You can do a self uniting marriage in PA, no officiant required at all. You just goto the county office and apply for a marriage certificate. Then you and your spouse sign it, and turn it in.
