2.80 Transportation of Stolen Vehicles / 18 U.S.C. Sec. 2312 is a federal law that prohibits the transportation of stolen vehicles in interstate or foreign commerce. This applies to any vehicle, regardless of its value, that has been stolen or unlawfully taken from its owner. The law also applies to the aiding or abetting of such transportation. The types of transportation of stolen vehicles covered by this law include the shipping, delivery, receipt, possession, sale, purchase, or transfer of a stolen vehicle, as well as the attempted or actual transportation of a stolen vehicle across state or international borders. Penalties for violating this law can include fines, imprisonment, or both. In addition, the stolen vehicle may be subject to forfeiture.
