The District of Columbia Application To Proceed In Form Pauperis-Civil Actions is a legal document used to allow individuals with limited financial resources to file civil court cases without having to pay filing fees and other associated costs of bringing a lawsuit. It is also known as an In Form Paupers ("IFP") application. The application must be accompanied by a financial affidavit and must be signed by the applicant under penalty of perjury. There are two types of District of Columbia Application To Proceed In Form Pauperis-Civil Actions: the original application and the renewal application. The original application must be filed when the plaintiff initially files a civil complaint. The renewal application must be filed if the plaintiff needs to renew the IFP status due to an increase in the amount of expenses associated with the case.
