Identification is required, either a driver's license or a certified copy of a birth certificate. No blood test or waiting period is required. Those 16 and 17 must have parental consent. South Dakota law does not permit the marriage of those under 16.

1. The marriage license can be obtained on the same day as your scheduled ceremony. If you wish to obtain your marriage license before your ceremony, please arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. You may also complete the marriage license application before your ceremony date by clicking here.
It may take up to 10 business days from the time we receive the marriage license for it to be registered and a marriage certificate to be available.
After your ceremony, your officiant is legally required to file your license within 10 days. Generally, couples are permitted to submit requests for certified copies beginning 7 days after the wedding date.
Processing time may take several days. Please expect to receive your copies via regular mail in approximately two weeks. If you wish to expedite your request, you may opt to send it via overnight mail.
Both parties must possess a valid government issued picture identification that includes the full legal name and date of birth. Both parties must be unmarried and at least 18 years of age. If a minor is obtaining a marriage license, a certified copy of the court order is required.
