Virginia Attorney Certification [Chapter 7 Pro Bono Certification--RICHMOND, ONLY] is a program that provides free legal services to low-income individuals and families who are unable to pay for legal assistance. It is administered by the Richmond Bar Association's Pro Bono Office and is open to all attorneys licensed to practice law in Virginia. The program offers two types of certification: Chapter 7 Pro Bono Certification and Chapter 13 Pro Bono Certification. Both certifications require the attorney to complete a pro bono training program and provide a minimum of 50 hours of pro bono legal services in the fields of family law, housing law, consumer law, or other areas of law approved by the Richmond Bar Association. The certification is valid for two years and can be renewed annually. Additionally, attorneys who successfully complete the certification program can become eligible for malpractice insurance coverage and receive an annual stipend for their pro bono work.
