A Report of Application and/or Order Authorizing Interception of Communications (Federal) is a document issued by a federal judge that allows law enforcement agencies to legally intercept various forms of communications, such as telephone calls, emails, and text messages. This document is issued under Title III of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 and is used in the investigation of specific criminal activities. There are two types of Report of Application and/or Order Authorizing Interception of Communications (Federal); the first type is a single-party order, which allows law enforcement to intercept communications between a single target and another party. The second type is a multi-party order, which allows law enforcement to intercept communications between multiple parties. The order is usually issued for a specific period of time, such as 30 days, and is subject to renewal if necessary.
