8.151 Violent Crime in Aid of Racketeering Enterprise (18 U.S.C. Sec. 1959) is a federal criminal offense that involves a person or group of persons engaging in violent acts for the purpose of furthering a criminal enterprise or racketeering activity. This crime is generally known as the federal “RICO” or racketeering statute. This crime is punishable by up to life imprisonment, a fine, or both. The types of violent crimes that can be prosecuted under this section of the law include murder, manslaughter, kidnapping, extortion, robbery, arson, assault, and sex offenses. It is important to note that the statute does not require the accused to have actually committed the violent act; it is enough that they aided, abetted, or conspired with another person to commit the violent act.
