Dealing in Firearms without a License is an illegal activity in the United States. It includes the sale, transfer, or giving away of any firearm without a valid license or permit doing so. This includes the buying, selling, trading, or bartering of any firearm or ammunition. Types of Dealing in Firearms without a License include unlicensed dealers, private sellers, and straw purchasers. Unlicensed dealers are those who have not received a license from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to engage in the sale of firearms. Private sellers are individuals who are not federally licensed gun dealers, but nevertheless engage in the sale of firearms. A straw purchaser is someone who buys a firearm on behalf of another person who is prohibited from doing so, or who intends to transfer the firearm to someone who is prohibited from owning it.
