§22-5-530 provides that a person charged with an offense triable in magistrate or municipal court is entitled to deposit with the magistrate or municipal court a sum of money not to exceed the maximum fine in the court for which the person is to be tried.

SECTION 22-3-550. Jurisdiction over minor offenses; restitution; contempt; maximum consecutive sentences. (A) Magistrates have jurisdiction of all offenses which may be subject to the penalties of a fine or forfeiture not exceeding five hundred dollars, or imprisonment not exceeding thirty days, or both.

Claim and delivery may not be used to recover ownership of real property, but may only be used to recover goods or personal property. Actions of claim and delivery are proper in the magistrate's court so long as the value of the property to be regained does not exceed the magistrate's jurisdictional amount ($7,500.00).

SECTION 22-3-560. Breaches of the peace. Magistrates may punish breaches of the peace by a fine not exceeding five hundred dollars or imprisonment for a term not exceeding thirty days, or both.

Before impaneling the jury or accepting the guilty plea of the defendant, the trial judge must receive an affirmative waiver by the defendant, if present, of his right to have the case tried in general sessions court.

Section 22-3-540 provides that magistrates (and by implication, municipal judges) have exclusive jurisdiction over all criminal cases in which the punishment does not exceed a fine of one hundred dollars or imprisonment for thirty days.

Claiming immediate delivery of property by plaintiff. The plaintiff in an action of claim and delivery before a magistrate may at the time of issuing the summons, but not afterwards, claim the immediate delivery of such property as herein provided.
