The New York Request for Pistol Permit Transfer is a document used to transfer ownership of a handgun in New York. The permit must be obtained through the local county clerk’s office or through the state police. The request must be completed by the buyer and seller and submitted to the local county clerk's office. It must include the buyer’s name, address, date of birth, permit number, and the handgun make, model, and serial number. The seller must also submit a copy of their valid pistol permit, a valid form of picture identification, and a copy of the original sale or purchase agreement. There are two types of New York Request for Pistol Permit Transfer: a Regular Pistol Transfer and an Assault Weapon Transfer. A Regular Pistol Transfer is for handguns with a capacity of no more than 10 rounds. An Assault Weapon Transfer is for handguns with a capacity of more than 10 rounds.
