As an IDP participant, you must attend all seven weekly classroom sessions. Each session takes 2 to 3 hours for 16 hours total. When you satisfactorily complete the classroom sessions, your involvement in the IDP will end, UNLESS the program refers you for formal assessment and any resulting treatment.

Program Overview IDP is a 16-hour, 7-week DMV-required education and prevention program, and is available to eligible NYS licensed motorists who have been convicted of driving while intoxicated (DWI) or driving while ability impaired (DWAI).

When you enroll in the Impaired Driver Program you must pay the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) a nonrefundable fee of $75. Additional fees may apply. Cash, checks, credit cards, debit cards or money orders (made payable to the ?Commissioner of Motor Vehicles?) are acceptable.

The total assessment for the three years is $300. If you receive more than 6 points on your driver record during a period of 18 months, the annual assessment is $25 for each point in addition to the original six points. The minimum amount that you must pay each year is the annual assessment.

The Drinking Driver Program (DDP) is offered by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). It lasts a minimum of seven weeks and consists of at least 16 hours of classes (e.g. one 2-3 hour class per week for seven weeks).

Applicants with three or four alcohol/drugged-driving-related convictions or incidents within the preceding 25 years, with a serious driving offense, will be permanently denied a driver license, unless there are unusual, extenuating, and compelling circumstances.
