New York CHAR 014 is an energy efficiency standard developed by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSE RDA) for residential buildings. The standard applies to single-family homes, multifamily buildings, and manufactured homes. It requires buildings to meet certain minimum energy performance requirements based on a number of factors including insulation, air sealing, windows, doors, and ventilation. The standard is divided into three categories: CHAR 014-A, CHAR 014-B, and CHAR 014-C. CHAR 014-A is the most basic and applies to all single-family homes and manufactured homes, while CHAR 014-B and CHAR 014-C are more stringent and apply to multifamily buildings. All buildings must meet the CHAR 014 standard to be eligible for certain energy efficiency incentives.
