New Jersey Designation of Clerk for Service of Process — Multi-jurisdictional Practice is a procedure whereby a person or entity located outside the State of New Jersey is designated as an agent to accept service of process on behalf of an individual or entity located within the State of New Jersey. This designation is typically used in cases where the person or entity located outside the State of New Jersey wishes to conduct business in multiple jurisdictions. The multi-jurisdictional practice designation allows the designated agent to accept service of process in the State of New Jersey as well as other jurisdictions. There are two types of New Jersey Designation of Clerk for Service of Process — Multi-jurisdictional Practice: 1) a single-jurisdiction designation, which applies to a single state, and 2) a multi-jurisdictional designation, which applies to multiple states. In both cases, the designated agent must be registered with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs in order to accept service of process in the State of New Jersey.
