A Nebraska Effective Financing Statement (NEWS) is a legal document required for all secured transactions in the state of Nebraska. It is used to perfect the security interest in collateral of a debtor and to notify third parties of the existence of such security interest. In Nebraska, the financing statement must be filed with the Secretary of State's office in order to perfect the security interest. There are two types of Nebraska Effective Financing Statements: UCC-1 and UCC-3. The UCC-1 is the standard form used to perfect the security interest in most personal property. The UCC-3 is used to amend, assign, or terminate a previously filed UCC-1. Both forms must be filed with the Secretary of State's office in order to perfect the security interest.
