The Minnesota Certificate of Settlement Efforts (MUSE) is a document used to certify that both parties involved in a dispute have attempted to resolve the issue through alternative means such as mediation or arbitration. It is typically filed in civil court proceedings and serves as evidence of a concerted effort to avoid litigation. There are two types of Moses: A standard Certificate of Settlement Efforts and a Certificate of Settlement Efforts with a Release. The standard MUSE merely certifies that the parties have made a good faith effort to settle their dispute, while the Release version also includes a release of any claims arising from the dispute. Both forms require the approval of the court before they can be filed.
