16 and 17-year-old minors enrolled in school may not work for more than nine hours in any one day, 40 hours in a school week, 48 hours in a non-school week, and six days in any one week.

While minors are able to obtain employment as early as age 14 in Michigan, all minors under the age of 18 must have a work permit prior to beginning employment. The minor must first obtain the work permit form that is required for their age, and then search for employment.

Minors under 18 years of age must obtain a work permit or a written agreement or contract entered into between the employer and the governing school district, public school academy, or nonpublic school before starting work.

For Minors Ages 16 and hours of work per day, 48 per week, up to 6 days per week are permitted when school is not in session. During the schoolweek, up to 24 hours may be worked.

A minor shall not be employed in an occupation regulated by this act until the person proposing to employ the minor procures from the minor and keeps on file at the place of employment a copy of: 1) a work permit or written training agreement between the employer and the school the minor attends; OR 2) proof of

Minors aged 12 through 17 are required to get work permits before starting a job. A minor under the age of 12 cannot receive a work permit except in the entertainment industry.

Minors shall not be employed for more than 6 days in a week, nor for a period longer than a weekly average of 8 hours per day or 48 hours in 1 week, no more than 48 hours school and work combined when school is in session, nor for more than 10 hours in a day.

A work permit is required unless the minor is exempt from the act or employed in corn detasseling. Minors may be employed in most jobs except those considered hazardous. Minors may only work certain hours. Teenage workers may not work more than 5 hours without a 30 minute break.
