Maine Articles of Incorporation are a set of documents that legally form a business. The documents are filed with the Maine Secretary of State in order to create a corporation in the state of Maine. The articles of incorporation provide the basic information about the corporation, such as the purpose of the business, the name and address of the corporation, the names and addresses of the incorporates, the duration of the corporation, the number of shares of stock that are authorized, and other pertinent information. There are two types of Maine Articles of Incorporation: General and Close. General Articles of Incorporation are used to form a business that will operate with a wide scope of activities. Close Articles of Incorporation are used to form a business with a more limited scope of activities.
