Maine Harboring or Concealing an Escaped Prisoner, 18 U.S.C. Sec. 1072, is a federal law that prohibits a person from knowingly and willfully harboring or concealing an escaped federal prisoner. It is punishable by a fine and/or up to five years in prison. There are two types of Maine Harboring or Concealing an Escaped Prisoner: (1) actively harboring or concealing an escaped prisoner, and (2) passively harboring or concealing an escaped prisoner. Actively harboring or concealing an escaped prisoner includes providing shelter, food, or clothing to the escaped prisoner, or helping the escaped prisoner avoid law enforcement. Passively harboring or concealing an escaped prisoner includes failing to report the escape of the prisoner to law enforcement, or failing to provide information about the escape or whereabouts of the prisoner to law enforcement.
