Louisiana Release by Prescription (Lax) is a program that allows a physician to order the release of certain drugs to a patient. Lax is an alternative to traditional prescription medication, allowing a patient to receive a medication without having to visit a pharmacy or wait in line for a prescription. This program is designed to provide access to medications in a timely manner with minimal disruption to a patient’s daily lifeLaxRx is available for medications that are approved by the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy. There are three types of Lax: Single-Use Lax, Multi-Use Lax, and Extended-Use Lax. Single-Use Lax allows a physician to order a single dose of a medication to be taken on the same day. Multi-Use Lax allows a physician to order multiple doses of a medication, up to a 30-day supply. Extended-Use Lax allows a physician to order multiple doses of a medication, up to a 90-day supply. All Lax orders must be entered into the Louisiana Prescription Monitoring Program (LAMP) prior to being filled.
