Illinois Citation to Discover assets to a Third Party is a legal process used to make a third party provide information about assets that may be subject to a legal claim. This legal process is governed by the Illinois Supreme Court Rules 224 and 226. There are two types of Illinois Citation to Discover assets to a Third Party: Third-Party Citation and Supplementary Third-Party Citation. Third-Party Citation is used to obtain information from an individual or entity who is not a party to the lawsuit, but who may have information or documents that are relevant to the case. The Third-Party Citation must include the name of the person or entity being served, the case number, the date and place of service, and the return date. Supplementary Third-Party Citation is used to obtain additional information from a third party who has already been served with a Third-Party Citation. The Supplementary Third-Party Citation must include the name of the person or entity being served, the case number, the date and place of service, and the return date. The Supplementary Third-Party Citation also must include a list of the documents or other information that is being requested.
