An Illinois Judgment Order of Emancipation (Of Minor) is a legal document that grants a minor the rights and responsibilities of an adult. This document is used to provide a minor with the right to make decisions regarding his or her own welfare and to enter into contracts and other legal agreements. It also removes the minor’s parents and/or guardians’ legal obligations and responsibilities in connection with the minor’s support, custody, and care. There are two types of Illinois Judgment Order of Emancipation (Of Minor): voluntary emancipation and judicial emancipation. Voluntary emancipation is when a minor petitions the court for emancipation and the court grants the request. Judicial emancipation is when a minor petitions the court for emancipation and the court determines that emancipation is in the minor’s best interests.
