Uniform Order for Support

The Illinois Uniform Order for Support (IFSA) is a law that establishes, enforces, and modifies child support and medical support orders across state lines. It is a uniform, statewide process for issuing, enforcing and modifying child support and medical support orders. The IFSA streamlines the processes for establishing paternity, establishing, enforcing, and modifying child support and medical support orders, and exercising enforcement remedies. The IFSA also allows for the interstate enforcement of orders by providing a mechanism for the registration of orders in other states. There are three types of Illinois Uniform Orders for Support: 1) An Initial Support Order is an order issued by a court or administrative authority that establishes the amount of child support and medical support to be paid by the noncustodial parent. 2) An Income Withholding Order is an order issued by a court or administrative authority that requires an employer to deduct child support payments from the noncustodial parent’s wages. 3) A Modification Order is an order issued by a court or administrative authority that modifies the amount of child support or medical support to be paid by the noncustodial parent.
