An Illinois Pretrial Release Order is a court order issued by a judge in the state of Illinois to release a defendant from custody prior to their trial. The order is used to determine the conditions of a defendant's release, such as whether they must pay a bond, be placed on electronic monitoring, or be supervised in some other way. There are three main types of Illinois Pretrial Release Order: Release on Own Recognizance (ROR), Surety Bond, and Bail Bond. Release on Own Recognizance is when a defendant is released without having to pay a bond or provide a surety. Surety Bond is when a third party agrees to pay the bond if the defendant fails to appear in court. Bail Bond is when a third party pays the bond to the court in exchange for the release of the defendant.
