Illinois Small Claims Complaint is a legal document used to initiate a civil lawsuit in the Circuit Court of Illinois. It is designed to resolve disputes involving amounts of money up to $30,000, as well as certain types of disputes involving property worth up to $15,000. It is an inexpensive, simplified court process that allows individuals to settle disputes without the need for a lawyer. There are two types of Illinois Small Claims Complaint: (1) Money only, which is used to pursue a claim when the disputed amount is $30,000 or less; and (2) Property Damage or Conversion, which is used to pursue a claim when the disputed amount is $15,000 or less and the claim is regarding property damage or conversion (the wrongful taking of another’s property).
